Silver Surfer Dolphin For The Big Splash WA

In Western Australia, one of the largest unspoken issues facing our society today is the mental health issues affecting children and young people. ‍

The Perth Children's Hospital Foundation hosted a mass public art event called The Big Splash WA in 2018 to raise awareness about the issue and valuable funds for Perth Children’s Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit.‍

"In Perth, there have been increasing levels of self-harm and suicidal thoughts among young people. Four times as many young people (particularly 14 and 15 year olds) present to Emergency Departments in crisis, with repeated self-injury and attempted suicide compared to five years ago." - Perth Children's Hospital Foundation.‍

The Big Splash WA saw a pod of 36 bright and colourful dolphins taking over the streets of the City of Perth from 20th January to 4th March 2018. Each dolphin was individually painted by a selection of local artists and featured on the The Big Splash Sculpture Trail around Perth.

The Perth community was encouraged to get involved by participating in the sculpture trail and sharing their dolphin selfies with the hashtag #thebigsplashwa. These sculptures were then auctioned off after the event to raise funds to support the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.‍

When we saw the chance to be involved in this exciting and rewarding event, we jumped at the opportunity!

Did you happen to come across our blinged up Dolphin #SilverSurfer? He was spotted surfing out near the Swan River at the Ku De Ta Perth!
